FASHIONABLE & SUSTAINABLE WITH H&M CONSCIOUS COLLECTION!

There is one thing I don’t like when it comes to living in The desert. Sometimes it seems like we are getting the memo a bit late here. And with late I mean the kind of message that comes in a bottle and has been lost in the sea for a few years… This time that bottle contains a message about sustainability and how important it is that we take care of the environment and our planet. I know this might sound like a very boring topic, but wait, it gets more fashionable very soon with the following headline:

“H&M CONSCIOUS AND CONSCIOUS EXCLUSIVE MAKE SUSTAINABLE FASHION STYLISH!”

So whats the crack? Basically H&M is launching their new limited edition conscious collection made in high quality fabrics with dramatic details inspired by flamenco and bohemia. The collection is made with sustainable materials such as organic leather – leather from cows bred for organic meat production on Swedish farms – and organic silk cultivated in organic mulberry trees.

So why do we want to use sustainable and materials for clothing? Organic fabrics like cotton, wool, silk and hemp must meet regulations set by the Organic Trade Association regarding fiber processing, production, dyeing and non-toxic handling. Next to that sustainable clothing uses fabrics made from renewable materials, for example bamboo, soy and Tencel, a wood pulp product. There is even a good chance you’ll see a dress on the street that is produced from new synthetic options like “POP,” fabric made from recycled plastic soda bottles. So basically you might be wearing an Evian bottle someone else has recycled a few years back!

At the moment there are many people who switch to organic products out of concern for the environment but also because the quality is usually super high! It might surprise you to hear that in 2003, sales of organic women’s clothing grew more than 30 percent.

Even though organic materials can be quite expensive, brands like the Gap, American apparel, Nike, Levi’s and now H&M are offering organic products at a more affordable price range.

The H&M conscious collection will be launching the day after tomorrow in stores (10 april 2014), but Obviously I can give you guys a sneak peek so you can first hand see that sustainable is defo fashionable!

I love the way they incorporated the bohemian inspiration with a modern silhouette and sustainable fabrics. Even though it is quite hard to pick my favorite items, I couldn’t resist to get a bit creative and composed them all together in a moodboard. From the amazing baroque wallpaper prints, to a bold leather waist belt and my must-have item of the collection; the necklace that can totally transform a simple top into a beautiful embellished eye-catcher. Can’t wait till thats part of my wardrobe!
